Yo-Landi Vi$$er

Yo-Landi Vi$$er is a pretty cool lady. She is a member of the South African rap group Die Antwoord. They are a proformance art group (think Ali G) known for their outrageous lyrics and controversial music videos. Yo-Landi Vi$$er, Ninja and DJ Hi-Tek make up this tongue-in-cheek band. Die Antwoord is known for making many Zef style references in their music. Zef being a South African slang term that describes a modern and trashy style which includes out-of-date, discarded cultural and style elements (like the gold lamé spandex pants and mullet Yo-Landi is known for). Basically, they're South African hipsters with really awesome hair.

Here, I've collected a few photographs and artwork inspired by Yo-Landi, and two of Die Antwoord's music videos. I made my brother watch the Evil Boy video and he said it made him physically ill, so you are forwarded. Enjoy!

Spring Break + Himalayan Salt Plates

My lady and I just returned yesterday evening to our apartment after having gone home for spring break. We had a wonderful time hanging out with old friends, watching our favorite movies, and chowing down on some great food at Chipotle in Seattle. It's put me in a good mood, and I think I'm ready for the quarter to start tomorrow.

While I was at home I stumbled upon something called Himalayan salt plates, and I think they look like a lot of fun. The plates are made of pink salt harvested in the Himalayas and cut into blocks. They can be cooked on or used as a serving plate. You can read more about them at The Italian Dish and purchase them at the The Meadow and at Dean and Deluca.

I've also found some great instructional videos for the salt plates. Here's one on using the salt plate over a grill, and here's another video demonstrating how to use the plate on the stove with flank steak.

Rik Lee

An amazing Australian artist who specializes in tattooed portraits. His use of fine detail and pastel colors drew me to his artwork. He was recently featured in Hi Fructose magazine. Enjoy!

Sue Wong

Sue Wong has now  become the designer to which I will measure all others. Not really being into fashion all that much, I can't say for sure that this statement should be taken at all seriously. What you should take seriously are her gorgeous, art deco-style gowns and cocktail dresses. They are so beautiful, you could wear one of these as a wedding dress!
