Ryan Mason

Ryan Mason is a tattoo artist out of Portland, Oregon at Scapegoat Tattoo. His tattoos are a mix of delicate detailing, traditional style, with just a little humor. I am seriously considering visiting Scapegoat Tattoo if the GF and I decide to take a road trip down to Portland next month. What a talented tattoo artist! I have yet to see anything consistently like it. Check out his blog for more pictures of amazing tattoos!

Flowers Suspended in Ice

This is a very girly, but nonetheless a pretty cool (no pun intended) idea. Freezing flowers in ice for cocktails or decoration is something I had never thought of doing. From weddings to garden parties, this creative gesture is perfect for all occasions, just make sure to use edible flowers.

Zero: A Short Film

Zero from Zealous Creative on Vimeo.

I find stop-motion animation inherently a bit creepy, and this short film is no exception. This work, created by Christopher and Christine Keseloz, has been compared to the early work of Tim Burton. The storyline is charming, and the characters adorable. No wonder it "won Best Short Film at the Naples International Film Festival, and other awards at over 10 other festivals", according to the Huffington Post. Watch it and love it.

The Children's Hour

Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine
Every time I watch this movie, I get wrapped up in the injustice of it all. I guess as a lesbian, this movie is my worst nightmare. What would happen if someone found out I like girls? Would I lose my job, or worse, never be able to work with children again? In many states it is still legal to discriminate against employees based on their sexual orientation. Luckily, I live in a state where that sort of discrimination is illegal, but I'm still weary of coming out of the closet in the work environment, and even to my fellow graduate students. Some may say that this film is out of date, or hard to watch, but it remains one of my favorites simply because it feels like a manifestation of my own fears. I can see myself in this film; something I think that makes it powerful and relevant.
